How to Create Art with Custom Canvas Prints
Date: 10-07-2011
Here is the scene. You have a large empty wall that you are tired of staring at, or you desperately need to update the art you have on your walls right now. You have this creative streak in you just dying to come out and play and you think that creating your own art on canvas would be the perfect touch for your home. But then the question that most artists struggle with arises…how do I create art? What is the most important thing to remember about art? It is subjective. That’s right. What is art to one person could be complete nonsense to another…but at least it’s your nonsense.
Even if you can’t draw or paint to save your life. That is ok, you can still tap into that inner artist by using a point and shoot camera, or even your iphone. Repeat after me, “It isn’t the tool you use to create art but how well you use it”. I don’t know if that is an original quote or not but feel free to re-quote me if need be. You can make photos to art with even the smallest camera. So pull out whatever camera you have…even those old disposable film camera your aunt still uses is fine. If it takes a picture…use it.
The trick to getting started with your art project is finding inspiration. This is where it helps to have an open mind and an observant eye. Inspiration can strike anywhere at anytime but it helps to go in search for inspiration sometimes. I get inspiration from watching movies, music videos, flipping through magazines, and checking out certain websites. One of my favorites lately has been pinterest.com. Tons of great ideas for, well, everything on there but specifically art, photographs, and ideas for what to print on a canvas. If you still can’t find your inspiration here are a few ideas that would be a good jumping off point for your soon to be photo canvas art masterpiece.
- Take a close up (macro) photo of something…anything. Most point and shoot cameras have a macro setting (the flower symbol on your camera). You will find interesting textures, colors, and patterns when you photograph something close up. When you enlarge those they become abstract pieces of art.
- Take close up photos of your kids and crop them in interesting ways and maybe turn the black and white. All you need is Photoshop Express (which is a free download)
- Use one of your favorite travel photos and split it into several pieces to create a unique broken up image.
- You can use all the images from one year and create an amazing piece of wall art. Just lay them out in a grid in Photoshop Elements or send them to Canvas Press and we can do it for you. You will end up with an amazing conversation piece and memories you don’t have to dig a photo album out of the closet to see.
The next step in transforming your photos to art is deciding where your custom canvas print will hang and what is the correct size for the wall it is going on. We would be more than happy to help you with that. You can visit our site at www.canvaspress.com to see all of the custom sizes we offer for photos on canvas or give us a call at 888.784.5553 and we can walk you through different suggestions and the ordering process.
