Father’s day from mom 3
The following photo to canvas gift idea requires photo manipulation software and knowledge of use.
My husband has become completely engrossed in his online multi player role playing game.  He will sit in front of the computer for hours “mining”, “checking auctions” or “running an instance”.  The kids think it’s cool that dad is so into computer games, but I chalk it up to boys and their toys.  At any rate, his love of the computer game has put a damper on this year’s Father’s Day gift ideas.  Since that’s his current favorite thing to do, I was at a loss as to what to get for him.
That was until I found Canvas Press.  As soon as I saw how easy it was to turn a digital image into a canvas print, I had an idea.  I would create an image of him as his character from the game.
For this, I had to enlist the help of my sons.  When their father was out shopping, I had them log into the game and pull up their father’s character.  I took a screen shot of it and then closed the program so that he would be none the wiser.  After swearing my children to secrecy, I transferred the image to my laptop and loaded it into a photo manipulation program.  I took one of my husband’s corporate headshots and began cutting and overlaying the image onto the face of his gaming character.  I mainly worked on getting the eyes, cheeks and mouth right.
Once I had his features transferred, I asked the kids to proof it.  When they started laughing and saying it looked like dad, I knew I was good to go.  I corrected and smoothed the coloring of the face so that it blended well and then uploaded the image to www.canvaspress.com.  I selected a small canvas, since this would probably either end up at his office or on the wall by his computer, and cropped the image so that it was just his  character.  I also chose to have a gallery wrap done on the image.  This wasn’t really the kind of image you framed and the gallery wrap would allow for the image to wrap over the sides of the canvas so that it would look good hanging on the wall.
The canvas was delivered to my door in no time and the kids think it’s perfect.  They are going to work on a picture of their own, getting their characters together in the game and taking a snapshot.  We’re all convinced that my image will probably end up at his office where he can hang it by his desk and show it off to his co-workers who also play the same game.
